Introduction

Ports and container terminals are large outdoor production sites. According to their importance, availability, possibility and consequences of lightning strike failure, their protection level is defined as Class A. Commonly used crane equipment is made of steel and is very susceptible to direct lightning strikes, which can cause damage to personnel and equipment.

The direct lightning strikes suffered by the port’s high-voltage overhead lines will be introduced to the quay crane along the power supply line through power supply and distribution facilities such as substations and box transformers. The power supply is led out through the port distribution room, laid along the cable trench to the bottom of each quay crane, and then introduced into the electrical room transformer through the cable drag turntable; the main transformer is a 440/690 volt AC system, which mainly supplies power to the drive system. The auxiliary transformer is a 220/380 volt AC system, which supplies power to the control power circuit and the auxiliary power circuit.

From the perspective of the wiring of the power supply circuit and the installation position of the electrical equipment, the power supply and distribution system has the risk of direct lightning strikes and induced overvoltage in the overhead section. At the same time, the power distribution system and terminal equipment also have the risk of potential difference and ground potential counterattack, which can easily cause damage to equipment and power supply systems.
